For sale: Collins 75A-2 160 – 10m HF receiver
The 75A-2 is a classic, high-quality US-made AM/CW/SSB receiver which covers the amateur radio bands 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters (1.5-2.5, 3.2-4.2, 6.8-7.8, 14-15, 20.8-21.8 and 28-30 MHz.
It is a 17-valve/tube double conversion superhet design, with permeability tuning. The tuning dial and band display are back-lit and it has a visual tuning accuracy to 1 kHz from 1.5-21.8 MHz and 2 kHz from 28-30 MHz.
For those AM aficionados, the 75A-2 has 6 kHz bandwidth for this mode. It also has an adjustable crystal filter and a BFO for SSB/CW.
The 75A-2 has been cleaned and restored and is in good conditions for its age, with new electrolytic capacitors and a new main tuning dial scale.
The receiver is famed for its audio quality and requires a separate speaker. It runs from 230V via a step-down transformer (included) to the US 115V AC mains.
This particular version was originally rack-mounted but has now been placed/mounted inside a re-spray-painted, black-crackle-finish RCA AR-88 cabinet for desktop use. It is a large, imposing, beautiful and heavy radio.
For more details, see: https://collinsradio.org/cca-collins-historical-archives/the-equipment-of-collins-radio/the-black-boxes/75a-2/ and reviews are available at: https://www.eham.net/reviews/view-product/3368
Lots of work went into the restoration and loathe to part with the 75A-2 but need the space. Prefer local sale as too big to post and can take it to the WA Manjimup Hamfeast on Monday 17 November 2025.
