Description
You are bidding on one US military VHF Antenna matching unit, MX-6707 / VRC. There are two, complete with a vehicle mount and a spring mount for the antenna; one spring mount still has the original manufacturer’s grease and protection cap.
They are in the US Army DOB livery. Though there are slight paint scratches, there is no body damage - see photos.
The matching unit is designed for mounting vertically on the rear tray of a Jeep, Land Rover, GMC truck, or APC. It was used by the Australian Army in Vietnam with the RT-524 transceiver to cover 30 to 75 MHz. It can also be used with the lower-powered PRC-25 and PRC-77.
All original equipment manufactured components are present.
This matching unit supersedes the MX-2799, though in my opinion, the 2799 is the better device – more mounting variability, less subject to water incursion into the circuitry and switching, and easier to maintain. I have listed the MX-2799 separately.
You can
  • use it in its original configuration with a PRC-25, PRC-77 or RT-524 and the correct, centre-fed vertical antenna. In such a configuration, the transceiver sends a control signal to the matching unit to index the LEDEX rotary-switched frequency band selection.
  • use it for matching any VHF transceiver to any antenna, if you make up a suitable switching unit for frequency selection; I made one to operate the MX-6707 following the circuit in the AS-1729 manual that you could use – ask for pricing.
  • modify it to cover other frequencies by changing the components on the internal switched circuits.
  • add it to your collection of Vietnam War memorabilia.
Why I am selling this item
I acquired these to have one working and one for spares. I used one for a while mounted with an antenna on the rear of my workshop, driven by a PRC-77. But as my only application was for the Australian radio amateur 6-m band (50 to 54 MHz), I felt it was overkill, and I designed and built a dedicated J-pole antenna. So, both these matching units are available.
I also have available:
  • replacement gaskets that seal between the upper and lower sections
  • one complete, centre-fed antenna to form the antenna system, AS-1729 / VRC – this is longer than Australia Post will carry; you would need to organise shipping or collect from me
  •  one antenna tie-down kit – very useful if you go bush-bashing
  • a copy of the AS-1729 / VRC operator’s and maintenance manual.
Ask me for prices.
Shipping - please read
  • If you win several items, I will bundle them to get you the most economical shipping charge.
  • There should be no increase in shipping cost if you want me to provide:
·  my HB frequency selection unit
·  the replacement sealing gasket
· the tie-down kit
· the AS-1729 manual.
Payment
  • I will accept payment by direct bank transfer, Money Order, or PayPal, but not posted cash. It is often cheaper to pay by bank transfer than by Money Order or PayPal.
