Description
You are bidding on one Intermediate Frequency Amplifier AM-427 for the PRC-9, -9A, -10 and -10A transceivers. The centre frequency is 4.3 MHz. There are several; tell me how many you want so I can produce an appropriate invoice for you.
The non-A transceivers used five of these amplifiers, each about 22 dB gain. So, the receiver is quite sensitive. The A models used four of these amplifiers, replacing one with a pulse generator to aid AFC.
The amplifier contains an IF transformer and a valve / tube amplifier. It is completely hermetically sealed - see photos, where I have also shown the sub-miniature valve / tube used in this amplifier; separate valves are available as extras.
A typical failure of these amplifiers is the valve / tube heater goes open circuit especially if the battery ground lead comes adrift. Then, the full HT gets applied to the heaters and they all blow.

I started collecting PRC-9, -9A, -10 and -10A transceivers intending to use them on the radio amateur bands. The PRC-9 and -9A can cover the amateur 10-m band, but few radio amateurs use FM in the 10-m band. The PRC-10 and -10A can cover the amateur 6-m band, but much amateur radio communication is via repeaters with a receive / transmit frequency offset that is difficult to use on these transceivers.
I have now sold my PRC-9, -9A, -10 and PRC-10A transceivers. So, I no longer need spares.

I make no charge for packaging. Your item will be properly wrapped and packed to withstand the usual rigors of postal and courier delivery systems.

- use it as is in a 4.3 MHz IF chain of your own design
- add it to your collection of Korean and Vietnam War era spares or collectibles.
