Description
You are bidding on a Woden multi-match modulation transformer, model UM0, serial number 47908. It was designed for valve / tube equipment. It is rated for 10 W audio input, preferably push-pull , thus, to modulate 20 W RF AM.
It is original equipment manufactured by Woden in Bilston, UK. Woden’s design was for very low distortion and high efficiency. I have available a two page document giving all the possible connections and impedances; contact me for the .pdf file. I have not used it; it appears new, apart from a few tiny scuff marks in the paint - see photos.
You can
When I first started getting into Command equipment, I wanted to set up a home radio station, running off the mains. I considered the rated 12 W RF output sufficient to get me started. The Command documentation advised to allow up to 120 A for start-up current. A linear power supply for such current would have been massive. So, I started collecting all the parts required for a home-brew, mains-powered modulator.
When I told a radio amateur friend what I planned, he gave me a much bigger, multi-match modulation transformer, suggesting that I would find 12 W RF somewhat limiting.
So, this Woden multi-match modulation transformer is available.

You can
- use it for replacement of a failed modulation transformer
- use it as part of your own design of modulator, for instance, for a home-brew Command modulator in place of the MD-7 / ARC-5 or BC-456
- add it to your collection of Woden transformer memorabilia.
