Description
So-called NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) key by Pryce Edwards Ltd. and Marconi S. & R. Systems Ltd. (PES). Also manufactured by IMR (International Marine Radio) and FIL (Fleming Industries). Markings on name plate this key FIL-71 and Serial Number 2020. These keys were used by the U.K. Royal Navy from the 1960s. The NATO key superseded the Admiralty Pattern 7681 key, although that key was still used alongside the NATO key on board British Navy vessels into the 1990s. The NATO key was also used by the Royal Australian Navy between the 1960s and 1990s.
