Description
A GPSDO merges the best characteristics of two different timing systems:
- The GPS Receiver: Receives a 1 Pulse-Per-Second (1PPS) signal locked to the atomic clocks on board GNSS satellites. This provides exceptional long-term accuracy but has jitter in the short term.
- The Local Oscillator: Uses a 10MHz Oven-Controlled Crystal Oscillator (OCXO). It is highly stable and generates a very clean, low-phase-noise signal (e.g., 10 MHz) in the short term.
- The Tracking Loop: A microcontroller and phase detector compare the local oscillator's output to the GPS's 1PPS signal. The system continuously makes micro-adjustments to the oscillator's control voltage to gently "steer" or discipline it to match the satellite time.
- 4 SMA outputs
