Description
Midland 78-999 240v version as in the video, one mint condition rare example of excellence.
Our 110v version from our radio museum already sold yesterday to a great client in the USA , thank you for your sale Curtis, much appreciated. Often, radios on our YouTube channel are sold before we can get an advert up, so to get the advantage of seeing radios fast, pls like and subscribe, and you will often see items that I am clearing out of my collection.
ok, back to the 240v Midland 78-999, yes, this beautiful 240v version shown in the video, its absolutely so desirable if you know what your looking at and the extremely rare opportunity to actually buy one here in Australia will be apparent if your in the know.
Pls watch the video, oh boy does this radio prove just how good the receiver is, especially the noise blanking circuit, just amazing as we were getting a bit of power line insulator noise on such a hot day, time for clean. Also, being its sat on our museum shelves for a few year's, it was about 100hz off frequency on LSB, so I went through and did a full alignment in our fully equipped workshop here and literally 20 mins later, all oscillators set to within 10hz of specs, opened up the Alc and even peaked the receiver ever so slightly as it was extremely close to perfect. Clarifier is now 12 o'clock, this radio has no modifications keeping its investment value at a peak, nothing worse than discovering 3 spst switches drilled into an otherwise mint pristine piece of history.
Again, check out the video, I was just using a 40m innvoantenna rotary dipole from the UK which ironically tunes perfect on 11m. I was going to pull it down as I dont use 40m anymore since losing my old mate vk3ahr but the discovery it worked so well on 11m meant, its location up 75' in the air remained. As you will see in the video, my 8 element optibeam is useless on 27mhz as its set up from 28.400 to 29.700 for my 10m obsession.
Not going to do any huge sales speeches on the Midland 78-999, you either know exactly what it is and its on your bucket list or your saying, how can a 40 ch CB radio be $1495 compared to an IC7300 etc, and if your not a collector of CB equipment, I actually understand your reasoning. But be aware, CB is a huge marketplace, we have in the last two years sold one of our Stoner 40 ch base cbs with accs for $8000 to one of my fellow friends and collectors in Texas, yep, no kidding,CB is a very interesting and often surprising market, thats for sure. I can assure buyers of this when it comes to a beautiful Midland 78-999, it should be $1995, and at $1495, it will not last long, they never do.
Pls enjoy the video, we had a load of fun making this one, my biggest joy was the enormous signals you will hear from from Tom and Steve in Adelaide, both have known me since my apprenticeship at Jensen Electronics in my teenage years, so much fun revisiting my roots with 12 watts of power.
