kenwood ts520s
ATTENTION HYBRID NET USERS.
Expressions of interest..
I will soon have 2 x ts520s Kenwood hybrids coming off the bench FOR SALE.
These units are in the final stages of tx rx refurbishment and potentially cabinet repaint options.
Units will not leave the bench without full operational duties.
Work done to units will include:
- fresh set of 6146B , fresh 12by7a driver
- new final cage componets including capacitor and cathode resistor , screen grid resistors
- refubished HV board
- refurbished rectifier board
- arc over mod on final PA section
- fresh HV caps
- full tx and rx alignment
- vfo alignment
- voltage checks throughout
- fresh cabinet button up with Stainless screws
- 240v plug in operation with cinch jones
- Op.manual included (quality copy)
- original handmic with optional desk mic availability To be discussed.
- original carry handle
- side cover panel (vox) with genuine clips
- PROPER tune up procedure included.
Overall condition will be in my opinion 7.5-8 /10
Based on almost 50year vintage(1975) , condition will be more than acceptable inside and out.
Price -
considering bench time and component changes and since a unit fetches $300-350 that needs work, i am considering a ball park of $750 firm.
realistically some may bawk at this price , however , if you know your Kenwoods and the price of components these days(if you can get them) its not an unreallistic price IMO.
i have searched high and low for some of these components over many months , now stocked of where i need to be with excessive freight costs along the way.
Repair time per unit has been 20hrs each, so far ,with changes , mods and being the pedantic person i am. (Put a tech price on that time alone)
I think 750.00 is cheap for vintage of this calibre.
its history , and there are buffs out there.
These units will be plug and play.

As for warranty , due to tune up and overload conditions by user, thats a hard one.
i will offer after sales service and repair potential damage (at cost) that may be impacted from improper use.
THESE rigs require care ,proper tuning and use.
They do not need to be driven full steam as it overloads IP and WILL KILL the tubes.
They are a beautiful piece of engineering that is hard to come by in this condition. Its REAL HAM RADIO, where it all started.
The 520s was kenwoods all time best seller , and for a reason. 50 years on i can still revive them!
Try do that with an smd unit.
