Description
You are bidding on a partly-populated RACAL preselector, MA 1101. The variable capacitors, selector relays, tunable inductors and trimmer capacitors are mounted inside a multi-cavity machined-cast-aluminium chassis - see photos. There are two cast lugs machined on one side, suggesting this item was used inside another device, such as a receiver or transmitter.
It is normally used in combination with the RACAL receiver RA.1792.
By the sizes of the capacitors and the gauges of wire, I suspect this was an automatic, HF antenna coupler designed to handle up to 1000 W PEP.
All original equipment manufactured components are present, except:
I acquired this device when I let my amateur radio friends know I wanted to build an automatic antenna coupler. I already have several versions of the Collins 180-L, a valve job; but I wanted something solid-state. I have now designed and built several manual antenna coupling units that work very well. I no longer have a need for rapid adjustment to band changing.

All original equipment manufactured components are present, except:
- one of the variable capacitors - see top right in photo
- motor drives for the two banks of variable capacitors
- sensing circuitry for measuring VSWR and power
- input and output connectors. Internet information shows at the rear side, coaxial connections also found on the MA.197B.
- There would once have been covers, held in place by 4 BA screws.
- use it for its original purpose as a preselector
- use it as is in an antenna coupler
- modify it to use the components in your own design of antenna coupler
- add it to your collection of RACAL equipment.

- There are often differences between what Australia Post's and other carriers' online calculators show, and what they actually charge.
- Australia Post includes insurance up to AU$100 and tracking as part of the carriage charge. Some carriers offer neither. If you choose Australia Post as your preferred carrier and the total transaction including shipping exceeds AU$100, you will require extra insurance cover. So, you must ask me to quote you for such additional delivery services as tracking, signature on receipt or a different level of insurance cover.
