A Station Master style antenna (as people commonly refer to it in CB/ham circles) is typically a base station vertical antenna designed for the 11 metre band (~27 MHz) — the classic Citizens Band (CB) frequency range. It’s usually:
-
About 5.5 m (18 ft) tall which matches the length you’d expect for a ½-wave vertical on 11 m.
-
Tunable across roughly 26–30 MHz so it can be optimized around 27 MHz and often used on adjacent bands like 10 m with a tuner.
-
A ½-wave vertical, meaning no large ground plane or radials are needed like a typical ¼-wave CB antenna — this can improve radiation efficiency and lower its profile for base installations.
-
Usually fed with a UHF-type connector (SO-239) so it mates easily with standard CB/coax leads.
-
Rated for up to ~1 kW in many designs, which is higher power handling than typical truck/mag mount CB antennas.
So it’s not a giant 11 metre satellite dish — just a CB/11 m radio vertical antenna that people use on home or base stations for local and some longer-distance communications.
???? Typical Specs You Can Use in Your Listing
| Property | Typical for an 11 m Station-Master Type Antenna |
|---|---|
| Frequency Range | ~26–30 MHz (CB 27 MHz centered) |
| Length | ~5.5 m (18 ft) |
| Design | ½-wave vertical |
| Power Rating | Up to ~1 kW |
| Connector | SO-239 (UHF female) |
| Polarization | Vertical (omnidirectional) |
???? How It Works
-
Half-wave design: A ½-wave vertical shouldn’t need a large ground plane — it radiates efficiently as long as the feedpoint and tuning are correct.
-
Omnidirectional: It radiates fairly evenly in all horizontal directions, ideal for local CB contacts.
-
Tuning: Matching/tuning (SWR) is usually set manually by adjusting the length or coil so you get a good match at your desired frequency.
I purchased this antenna with intension to use on top of my new Tower Build.
In the end I didn't require it though.
