I was in the old system so do I need to re-register on this site?

Yes. Your registration on the previous vkclassifieds.com.au site will not work on this site.  Unfortunately, the old site data was not available to transfer, consequently you will need to submit a new registration application on this site. Please make careful note of the information requirements while registering or your submission may not be processed.

What is the cost to register on this site?

Nothing. FREE. There are no registration fees for buyers or sellers for placing basic Auctions and Classified adverts.  There are however two paid levels, Supporter and Sponsor, that will give access to extra features but these are more a facility to allow users to give support to the site and are by no means mandatory - but appreciated. Payment for any subscription level will be charged automatically when you place your first advert (just click on Renew Subscription at the Checkout).

Do I have to have an ISP email AND listed phone number to register?

Not necessarily.  If you do not have either, or both, of these registration requirements then all you need to do is supply another form of verifiable information e.g..  email in a copy of your VK licence or maybe a bill with your name and address clearly shown.  Even registering using a wia.org.au or arrl.net email address will be accepted as all the proof required.  If any of these alternatives are supplied/used, then registering using your Gmail email or mobile phone number is no problem.  Any other queries please use the Contact Us form as the registration requirements here are not intended to stop you from registering. They are just there to confirm the identity of everyone who does.

What does Verified User badge mean and how do I get it?

How much does it cost for sellers to place listings?

Who can browse and reply to the adverts?

Who can see my information when I place and advert?

How do buyers and sellers communicate with each other?

We provide buyers with the ability to contact the seller through a form that is accessible on each of the seller's listing pages. The seller will then be notified by email of the buyer's questions and the seller can either reply by email or log in to their account and reply through our onsite messaging system. The seller can choose to keep their email address anonymous.

Can I save items to revisit later?

Yes. You can maintain your own "favourites" list within your account. Each listing on our site has an "add to favourites" link. Simply click that link and we will add that item to your favourites list.

Please try to use your own photos in your listings?

Using photos is almost a must to increase your chances of a sale but please try to use a photo of the actual item - not a stock photo from the Internet. Buyers like to see what they are buying and in some cases think it is being deceptive if you are not willing to post an image of the "real" thing.
Of course if it is not possible then you should clearly state/explain the circumstance of using either no picture or a stock one.  As always the more information a Buyer has the better they will feel about dealing with you.

Advantages of using an Auction

Besides the possibility of getting higher prices through a bidding system (not guaranteed) there are quite a few other advantages:

  • Ability to set duration including a Start and End date and time
  • Ability to White or Blacklist bidders
  • Full Buyer/Seller feedback system available
  • Reserve pricing and Buy Now functions in normal auctions and Buy It Now Only auctions also available (see below for more details on these)
Tip: Try setting the Start price (with no reserve) at the lowest you would accept and see if there is enough interest to push the price higher?  Even if only one bid is taken you still get your lowest acceptable price!

Can I edit or delete an Auction?

Auctions are able to be edited or deleted ONLY until the first bid is made.  At this point the listing is locked and cannot be removed or cancelled.  It MUST run its full duration so carefully consider how long you want that to be.

Reserve Prices explained

  • If you set a reserve, consider this the lowest price you will accept.
  • When there is no reserve price the auction is considered successful if any bids were received
  • When the reserve price has been exceeded the auction is now a “successful” auction and will conclude with a winning bidder. Once the reserve is met both the winning bidder(s) and the seller are prompted to leave feedback for each other. Both only need to go to the feedback section of their user management client side control panel to find the prompt waiting.
  • If the reserve price is never reached or exceeded during bidding, then the auction is not a successful auction and there are no winning bidders despite the bids currently in the system. The seller is not obligated to sell the auctioned item/service to the highest bidder. No feedback can be left for the seller or the buyer under these circumstances so both will have no “protection” within the system if a transaction is concluded outside of the system.

What is Buy It Now?

  • A Buy Now price if set is the price you are happy to accept for an immediate sale.  This will only be visible and available until the first bid is made or, if a reserve is set, until the Reserve price is met.  At this point it will go away and the Auction will have to run its normal full duration.

What is a Buy It Now Only Auction?

  • This is a feature that allows the seller to place one price for an auction and remove bidding from the auction. Here are the highlights of this feature:
  • provides a one fixed price listing that still provides the full benefits of an auction.
  • no bidding
  • there is only the one buy now price
  • when someone clicks the Buy Now button and completes their bid the auction closes and the buyer can make payment immediately if applicable
  • the post-sale feedback feature available to auctions is available

Why are there no details about the Advertiser in their listings?

This is by design.  Before you can (normally) see anything about the seller you must be a registered user and logged in.  Even then unless the seller/buyer wants to show any details it is completely up to them.  This is for security reasons.

Let me explain the rationale behind this.  If you put any identifying information in your listing then you expose yourself to everyone including trolls, spammers and scammers.  That is a sad fact of life on the Internet these days.  I know some people want to know exactly who they are dealing with even before making any decision to purchase etc but if they are serious about it they will register in the system, just like you did, and provide some form of identification in the process.  Once logged in they can then use the Contact Seller function to initiate contact with the advertiser and go from there.

Important:  At this point you should be finding out exactly who you are dealing with (from them), as per normal Buyer Beware principles, and if the advertiser is reluctant in any way to supply information then you should be rethinking your decision to deal with them.  Better to be safe than sorry!

Of course if you wish to put contact information in your adverts, and accept the inherent risks, then that is entirely up to you.

Not getting system emails or responses to your Adverts?

Look in your Spam folder as more than likely, unless just nobody is responding to you, your filter is catching all the emails from VK Classifieds.  Words like "sale", "classifieds", "buy", "sell" etc can apparently trigger a spam filter.  Who knew?  :-)  If possible add admin@vkclassifieds.net.au to your email White List to prevent your filter catching the site emails in the future.

Is this site available on phones and tablets?

Yes.  This site is using a full size responsive template meaning that it will scale automatically for optimised viewing on whatever device you are using to access it.

Is there a way of rating users?

Yes. Similar to other larger general use classifieds sites VK Classifieds now has the ability to rate your transaction experience.  Users over time will build up a Feedback rating that will become very useful.  Adverts individually can also be rated. There is also a facility for a user, via a link in their My Account section, to block other individual users from either buying or contacting them.

Is this site secure?

Yes. Encryption is used for system data but importantly please be aware that NO personal financial information is retained by this site.

How do I find what I'm looking for?

You have several options:

    • We offer a quick search form on the front page for you to enter keywords to search.
    • We offer an Advanced Search page for you to refine your search criteria.
    • We offer browsing filters when you are browsing by category.

What if I can't find what I'm looking for?

You can set up Search Filters (Auto-Notify) within your account area. Our site will then screen all new listings, as they are placed on the site, and if an item is listed that meets your filter (search) criteria, we will automatically send you an email notification.
